**** For Immediate Release ****

Palo Alto artist Edith Smith is exhibiting etchings and pastels at the

Galerie Dautzenberg 76, Brussels, Belgium, from February 7 until March 4.

Many of the etchings, some involving computer-generated images, were seen

in May 1977 at a large solo show at the Palo Alto Civic Center. The pastels

are portrait cycles (sets of three) involving transformations of the human

visage.

The artist, an instructor of printmaking and drawing at Foothill College,

will be in Brussels for the opening. After that she will spend five weeks at

the Atelier Calevaert-Brun in Paris, working on mezzotint printing, an old

etching technique she is reviving in her work and teaching.
